Basal implantology is an advanced and evolving implantology system in which the dental implants utilize the basal bone which is resistant to resorption and a stable part of the osseous tissues of the mandible and maxilla which are underlying the alveolar processes as anchorage for retention and stability. It adopts the concept of osseofixation because of its strong anchorage into the cortical bone which can be achieved by utilizing the second or third cortical. This paper provides an extensive overview and a comprehensive knowledge about the concepts of basal implantology and also highlights the available literature regarding the different designs available, their indications, contraindications, advantages, and drawbacks over conventional implants, effectiveness, and their relationships to the long term success of the prosthesis.
