From the middle of the nineteenth century, the sparks of rebellion against the British rule started rising. In 1857, this rebellion took the form of an Indian freedom struggle. After this the non-violent movement started under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. Parallel to this, the armed struggle of the revolutionaries also continued.
