Traditionally Manja [Banana Stem] is used to prepare one special Byanjana (Recipe) for Lord Jagannath and offered as prasad or ( Bhoga ) to lord Jagannath with other items. Usually tender banana stem is prepared as Ambila or Khata mixed with jaggery (Guda) and traditional Odia spices or Raita by mixing with curd. This is one of the special items made on special days in the temple. The idea of making banana stem pickle is inherited from the revival of this cultural food and made it available to the modern consumers. It is also important to mention that the rich Jagannath cult had given importance to the nutritive and scientific values in the food items. Banana stem, rich in fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and Vitamin B6 is the solution to prevent many diseases including protecting gut health, renal and cardiac health and due to its low glycemic index, this has due importance in sugar management.
