Ilkal sarees are traditional mainly known for their traditional borders and pallu. The pallu threads and body threads of this fabric are joined in loop technique, a unique method locally called as Tope Teni. The pallu of this saree is usually made of red silk with white patterns carrying designs of temple towers while the body of the saree carries designs such as stripes, rectangles, square or even plain. The broad border in contrast colors is woven in different traditional types such as Gomi, Paraspet, Gaadi, Jari, and modern Gayathri.
