It is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas in Hinduism and is attributed to Lord Vishnu's Matsya (Fish) avatar. This scripture contains teachings on cosmology, genealogy, mythology, dharma (righteousness), temple construction, and sacred rituals. It also describes the great deluge (pralaya) and how Lord Vishnu, in his Matsya avatar, saved the Vedas and guided King Manu to restore humanity.
